Furniture for Multimedia Equipment

It’s hard to imagine modern life without a TV and other audio and video equipment. Technological progress forces us to periodically change outdated devices for more modern, lightweight, elegant, and more harmonized designs.

Despite the fact that technology manufacturers try to keep up with all design trends, often a huge TV, home theater, or music center is knocked out of the general style of the room, introducing tangible disharmony into it. This is especially true for romantic “old” and “rustic” interiors (classic, baroque, shabby chic, Provence, country, etc.), in which massive, eye-catching technology looks alienated and often just ridiculous. And if a small stereo or DVD player can still be placed discreetly, and the design of the speakers can be chosen so that they do not spoil the room, then hiding or disguising a huge black TV in the interior is quite problematic, but still, we will give some tips on how to do this.

Doors and sliding panels

If a large-screen TV does not fit into the interior of the room at all and at the same time it is rarely used, an excellent solution would be to “hide” it behind beautiful hinged doors or sliding panels. Especially often this option is used in bedrooms so as not to disturb the overall harmony of the interior, but at the same time be able to watch an interesting movie or news before going to bed.

Decorative doors can be easily matched to any interior without spoiling its integrity and style. When choosing the option with hinged doors, it is worth making sure that there is enough space around to open them freely for comfortable TV viewing.

Frames and baguettes

If the TV is used often, then there is no point in hiding it behind the doors: they will still be constantly open. To organically fit the TV into a vintage-style room, you can use another original way – to install it in a beautiful frame. A TV in an elegant frame will resemble a picture, and a whole block of equipment on different shelves inside a massive frame will look like an open display case or vintage whatnot, and in this shape, it will look much softer and less technical.

The stores offer ready-made solutions, but you can also independently choose and decorate a beautiful baguette to your taste.

Brackets

Undoubtedly, this is one of the most popular ways to position the TV in any room, saving as much space as possible. A variety of sizes and designs of brackets allows you to install the TV as close to the wall as possible in a strictly fixed position or at a certain distance from the wall with the ability to turn the screen in the desired direction, which can be very comfortable, for example, in the kitchen.

The brackets can be used both independently and in combination with other decorative techniques (doors, frames, special finishes).

Wall decoration

In modern interiors, in which the equipment looks quite harmonious and does not need to be hidden or masked, the presence of the TV is very often, on the contrary, emphasized with the help of  contrasting wall decoration, which acts as a background for it and other audio and video devices.

Racks, cabinets, dressers

If the area of the room allows, an excellent and very functional solution would be to install the TV on special furniture (cabinet, chest of drawers, counter, electric fireplace, etc.). Beautifully selected furniture will not only decorate the interior, but also provide additional storage space.

Inside cabinets and storage systems

In spacious living rooms, TVs and other multimedia equipment are traditionally placed inside cabinets and other storage systems. This approach is quite functional, as it makes it possible to conveniently store everything you need in one limited space, hide the wires beautifully and comfortably listen to music and watch your favorite films and programs. With this arrangement of equipment, you should pay special attention to the place for the speakers: if you install them inside the cabinet, the sound will be greatly muffled and distorted by the surrounding furniture. Therefore, it is better to put the speakers on the floor, on the walls, or on the closet, especially since the modern design allows you to turn many of them into real interior decoration.

Equipment location rules

In conclusion, it is worth remembering a few basic rules and medical recommendations that will allow you to comfortably listen to music and watch your favorite films and programs:

  • Audio speakers are placed in the corners of the room, preferably on the floor or on a stable (non-vibrating) base to avoid sound distortion. The distance between the speakers and the seating position should be sufficient to avoid discomfort when listening to music.
  • The TV screen should be at or slightly below eye level. For convenient viewing of TV from a sofa or armchair, the center point of the screen is placed at a level of about 70-100 cm from the floor (depending on the height of the seats). In the bedroom, the TV is usually installed much higher – so that it is convenient to watch it while lying on the bed.
  • The larger the TV screen, the greater the distance required for comfortable viewing. For example, it is recommended to watch a TV with a diagonal of 36 inches (92 cm) from a distance of 3-5 meters. To calculate it correctly, the diagonal of the TV is multiplied by 5.
  • Modern flat-screen TVs have a very wide viewing angle (almost 180 ), but it is more convenient to look at the screen sitting directly opposite or with a slight offset to the side.
  • The TV should not be exposed to bright light to avoid reflections on the screen, so it should not be placed in front of a window or under bright lights.
  • The light level in the room should match the brightness of the screen so that the eyes do not get tired, constantly adapting to different conditions. Watching TV in total darkness is very harmful to your eyes.
  • It is not recommended that you watch TV for more than 2-3 hours in a row, otherwise, you will feel negative effects on your health, mood, and general well-being.
