Oppo has officially announced two latest smartphones in its “A” series called Oppo A8 and A91 respectively. The company initially targets the domestic price with mid-range specs at an aggressive price point. Both the smartphones use MediaTek chipset, although we aren’t sure how many would like the hardware combination. Oppo A8 Specifications
Oppo A8 comes with 6.5-inch 720 x 1600 pixels Full HD+ LCD display. It is powered by the 12nm Mediatek Helio P35 octa-core chipset paired with PowerVR GE8320 GPU. The optics department brings three rear cameras. The primary one is the 12MP shooter combined with 2MP and 2MP depth sensors. The front side surrounds an 8MP selfie camera. It will worth noting that rear camera is well capable of recording up to 1080p video @30fps.
The handset packs 4230 mAh non-removable battery with standard charging support. It lacks the USB Type-C port replaced by standard Micro USB 2.0. The smartphone equips the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for safe unlocking. All the essential connectivity options are present on this device. The only available variant includes 4GB RAM and 128GB built-in storage. Which can be further expanded up to 256GB via dedicated Micro SD slot. It measures 163.9 x 75.5 x 8.3 mm and weight is 180 grams. The Android 9 Pie operates the device based on ColorOS 6.1 out of the box.
Oppo A91 Specifications
The Oppo A91 incorporates the slightly smaller 6.4-inch display. But the resolution has been upgraded to 1080 x 2400 pixel Full HD+ under IPS LCD panel. It utilizes the more powerful MediaTek Helio P70 chipset under the hood. The SoC is based on 12nm manufacturing node clocked @2.1GHz higher Cortex-A73 cores paired with integrated Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. As for optics, it has 48MP primary sensor as well as three other lenses. Apart from the primary one, it couples 8MP ultra-wide lens, 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensors. The front camera packs single 16MP snapper for selfies.
There is 4025 mAh large non-removable battery with 30W VOOC 4.0 Flash Charge fast charging support. The only memory option includes up to 8MP RAM and 128GB internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 256GB via dedicated card slot. However, the company didn’t reveal the exact dimensions, but it is 7.9 thick with having 172 grams weight. The device runs on the same Android 9 Pie operating system running on ColorOS 6.1 out of the box. All the required connectivity features are available to this smartphone. The fingerprint sensor is available under the display that then physical appearance.
Pricing and Availability
The Oppo A8 is priced at 1,199 CNY, which roughly converted into 170$ or Rs. 12,000. The device comes in two Azure and Black colour options. On the other hand, Oppo A91 costs 1,999 CNY (Approx 285$ or Rs. 2000) and brings Dark Blue, Red and Gradient colour options. Both the devices are already up to pre-orders on the company’s official China store and will start selling from December 26 in China.
