Snapdragon 855 vs 845 vs Snapdragon 730 vs 730G – Antutu-Geekbench Benchmark Scores

Qualcomm latterly introduced two new chipsets Snapdragon 730 and 730G. New SoCs are designed for the upper mid-range smartphones. But these are strong conductors to compare with Snapdragon 855 and Snapdragon 845. If you are following the semiconductor industry, you must be curious to know how these processors stand against flagship line-up.

The Snapdragon 730 is a dependable premium mid-range SoC. And 730G is designed for gaming-oriented devices with notable GPU modifications. Both have almost similar specifications. In this article, we will be comparing the Snapdragon 855 vs 845 vs Snapdragon 730 and 730G. Eventually, we have divided into two parts, one for the flagship and another one for the mid-rangers. Without any further ado, let’s start the main course!

CPU Performance

The Snapdragon 855 comes with a tri-cluster octa-core CPU. It uses one powerful Kryo 485 Gold core clocked @2.84GHz, 3x Kryo 485 Gold cores @2.42 GHz and another 4x Kryo 485 Silver cores @1.78GHz. Its forerunner Snapdragon 845 has a dual-cluster octa-core CPU. It arrives with four powerful Kryo 385 Gold cores @2.8GHz, and the rest 4x Kryo 385 silver cores are pointed @1.7GHz.

Both Snapdragon 730 and 730G use the same CPU cores. These have two powerful Kryo 470 cores clocked @2.2GHz and 6x power efficient Kryo 470 Silver cores @1.8GHz. Considering the architecture, Snapdragon 855 is built-on 7nm node, while, the Snapdragon 845 has a 2nd generation 10nm process. On the other hand, Snapdragon 730 dua fetches Samsung’s LPP 8nm node.

Concluding the overall CPU performance, undoubtedly,  Snapdragon 855 remains on the top. Snapdragon 845 follows with a measurable lead over the Snapdragon 730 series. Overall, all four chipsets utilize the powerful Cortex-A76 cores combined with Cortex-A55. But Qualcomm presents with the “KRYO” name after making some adjustments.

GPU and Other Hardware

Snapdragon 855 pairs with Adreno 640 GPU, which is the company’s best until date. The Adreno 630 GPU powers the Snapdragon 845. However, both Snapdragon 730 and 730G same Adreno 618. But there is a difference because Snapdragon 730G has overclocked @825MHz compared to 700GHz found on the standard 730.

The company promises to deliver 15% better Graphics performance in comparison to SDM730. There is no doubt Snapdragon 855 has the most powerful GPU, and Snapdragon 845 follows it. Necessary APIs support is available with OpenGL ES 3.2, Vulkan 1.1, OpenCL 2.0, DirectX 12.

All the SoCs support the latest LPDDR4x RAM, but SDM855 maxes it with up to 12GB RAM. All the remaining three are restricted to 8GB RAM. We can say that all are sufficient to follow the current industry standards. Snapdragon 855 has the latest UFS 3.0 support, but the other three lack the fastest flash storage.

This could be a vital deprivation for the Snapdragon 730G. For smooth gaming performance, the fastest storage is a must-have component. I would say for the budget segment; companies make some compromise to cut the cost.

Camera and Display

All the Snapdragon processors support up to 48MP single camera, which can be enhanced up to 192MP using different techniques. Except for the SDM845, all the remaining three can hold up to 22MP + 22MP dual cameras. But Snapdragon 845 only accommodates the 16MP + 16MP double camera combo.

I think the comparison basis on the camera could be unfair to all. The image processing power matters a lot to process any camera shot. To do so, Snapdragon 855 has Spectra 380 Image Signal processor (ISP). Snapdragon 845 brings Spectra 280, and Snapdragon 730 series has Spectra 350 ISP.

However, there aren’t many details available, but Spectra 380 should be way more advanced capabilities to process any image. Spectra 280 can process 60 images per second.

Moving to the display, both Snapdragon 855 and 845 support up to 2160 x 3840 pixels 4K UHD display. The Snapdragon 730 and 730 can only hold up to 1080 x 2520 pixels Full HD+ display. That isn’t a drawback at all, because most of the budget segment smartphone still use only Full HD+ panel. The latest HDR10+ content support is exclusively available to Snapdragon 855.

Connectivity

The Snapdragon 855 is the only chipset between all that supports the X50 5G modem. All the remaining chipset sets come with 4G LTE support. The Snapdragon X50 5G modem can deliver up to 2Gbps download and 316Mbps upload speeds. The Snapdragon X20 LTE modem found on Snapdragon 845 can go up to 1.2Gbps download and 150Mbps upload speeds.

There isn’t any difference between Snapdragon 730 and 730G. Both arrive with Snapdragon X15 LTE modem, which can go up to 800Mbps download and 150Mpbs upload speed. Connectivity-wise, these SoCs match with the current industry standards in all aspects.
